About Us
At Haka House, we're all about adventurous travel for the free-spirited. Our network of thirteen hostels and a restaurant stretches from the Bay of Islands to WÄnaka, welcoming travellers from around the world. Behind every great guest experience is a property that runs smoothly, from hot showers and warm rooms to functional kitchens and secure facilities. That's where our Maintenance team comes in, helping ensure every Haka House property is safe, comfortable, and ready for adventure.
About the Role
We're looking for a Maintenance Manager to lead property maintenance across our hostels nationwide. You'll ensure our hostels remain safe, comfortable, and operating smoothly for both guests and staff. You'll lead a small team based across the North and South Islands and work closely with our Operations team to minimise disruption across our properties.
What Youâll Be Doing
- Leading and coordinating our maintenance team and contractors across all Haka House sites
- Planning and managing maintenance budgets, and getting a good deal on spare parts
- Building out a proactive maintenance programme, so we're fixing things before they break
- Coordinating bigger repairs and building projects, and keeping the paperwork tidy for Head Office
- Playing a key role on our Health and Safety Committee, and making sure every site meets its obligations
- Finding smarter, more cost-effective ways to keep our buildings in top shape
What Youâll Bring
- 5+ years in a similar maintenance leadership role, ideally across hostels, hotels or multi-site facilities
- A trade background or relevant qualification is a real plus
- Solid knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, and what it means day to day
- A knack for leading people who aren't always in the same room as you
- High standards, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm when something goes sideways
- A self-starter who takes ownership and follows through
What We Offer
- A permanent role with flexi-time, based at our Auckland HQ
- The chance to look after some of New Zealand's most-loved hostels, from Paihia to Wanaka
- A close-knit, down-to-earth team that backs each other
- Regular travel to our sites around the country (yes, that's Queenstown and Lake Tekapo too)
