Direct Reports: 6 x Hostel Managers

Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for people, performance, and creating unforgettable guest experiences? Haka House is looking for an Operations Manager – North Island to join our whānau and help drive excellence across our hostel network.

About the Role

As Operations Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind the success of our properties. You’ll ensure each hostel operates at its highest potential—financially, culturally, and experientially. From refining SOPs and service standards to developing high-performing teams, you’ll be instrumental in shaping the future of Haka House.

This role requires regular travel across the North Island to support our hostel teams, oversee operations, and ensure consistency and quality across all locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Hostel Managers to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
  • Develop and implement operational controls, SOPs, and quality assurance systems.
  • Drive a strong sales culture and optimise property efficiency.
  • Champion health & safety protocols and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate on training plans and staff development.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and implement improvements.
  • Own asset management and operational knowledge across the portfolio.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in hostel/hotel operations +5 years
  • Proven experience in Hospitality of 10+ years
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills (Proven)
  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building ability.
  • Proven Financial acumen and process management expertise.
  • Experience training rostering, payroll, and other Employment modules
  • Proven experience with Nayax, Tangerpay, Mews, Nonius & Future Log applications
  • Passion for youth tourism and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the motu
